MARE ISLAND SHIPYARD - NIMITZ AVENUE WITH KEEL BLOCKS

Photograph by Steve Chandler

Mare Island shipyard is being dismantled and sold for housing tracts. These keel blocks are stacked on a main street to be trucked away. Keel blocks were used to shim up ships in dry dock. Amazing forms, structures and history are being eroded and removed.
